Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center: Building Virtual Worlds

Project Overview: As part of the Immersion Semester (first semester) at Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center, one of the classes is Building Virtual Worlds. Every two weeks, students get placed in a brand new team and must create a brand new virtual world.

My Role: Producer / Sound Designer

Project Duration: 16 Weeks (Fall 2019)

Platform: Unity / VR / Phidgets

Project Goal: To create a brand new virtual world each round with a different prompt, such as “Helping Character A who is afraid of Character B”, “Story”, or “Lightening” (Lightening was one week instead of the usual two).

What Did I Do?

On each team I fulfilled the roles of Sound Designer and Producer. As Sound Designer I created and implemented sound effects, background music, voice over, and ambient noise. As Producer I ensured that each team stayed on schedule and oversaw the completion of all tasks for each project.

Everyone on the team was responsible for the overall design, which allowed for a very fun, full-team interdisciplinary experience.
